MY STORY

Izzy (16), Liverpool

Initially, I hoped that by joining PAC, I could help other people or be a small part in a combined effort of improving my local area and places across the country. Since joining, these hopes have transformed into aspirations beyond what I thought possible. For example, having the opportunity to be a part of the journey to bring about structural changes in the social system and to achieve social justice by decreasing youth violence across the country. It has empowered me to strive for social change, given me confidence, developed my skills and impassioned me with the desire to inspire others to have the determination to do the same.

This project brings to light our own individual responsibility – as people in our community and on a grander scale – to help each other. As a result of recent global events, it is a chance to bring out the leadership potential to nationally combat injustice and inequality, especially for the young people involved in this project. Young people’s voices often go unheard, but this experience has been the perfect opportunity to subvert the expectations and presumptions of those who are prejudiced and ignorant to the experiences and opinions of young people – on the basis of our age – and refuse to involve us in decision-making concerning our own futures. Especially for those who have experienced or have been involved in youth violence, every step to decreasing and eventually eliminating the issue is beneficial for everyone.

“For me and so many other young people, this opportunity has undoubtedly fuelled a life-long passion to strive for change. It has been enriching and exciting to develop my skills in such a passionate team, joined by so many other inspirational young people across the country.”

For me and so many other young people, this opportunity has undoubtedly fuelled a life-long passion to strive for change. It has been enriching and exciting to develop my skills in such a passionate team, joined by so many other inspirational young people across the country. Whether it’s conducting interviews, becoming more trauma informed and adapting interpersonal skills, I now understand their impact on project development for social action.

I feel empowered by the shared aspirations of the true nature of teamwork and the benefits of the consistent dedication of the team, thanks to the fantastic opportunity presented by this revolutionary project. I couldn’t be more honoured and proud to be a part of PAC.
